Why do I need to set up DNS, and what does it do?

When you register your domain (www.example.com) and set up the DNS, you are allowing a secure connection between your domain and Snappy.

This means that emails will look authentic and be more deliverable, as they will come directly from your email domain.

If you do not set up your domain with Snappy, you will still be able to send emails from your personal email address. However, some email providers may include a message stating that the email was sent on your behalf from Snappy Kraken.

You may also experience more emails going to spam as the sending domain and email address do not match.

Here Are the Steps to Follow to Send Emails directly from Your Domain

Before you begin

Please note the following updates require some technical knowledge to ensure they are applied correctly. In addition, these are potentially sensitive changes that could affect your current email or website availability if the settings are applied incorrectly. We recommend contacting your website or domain administrator for assistance.

I. Register your domain with your account

The first step to setting up your DNS is to register your email domain with your Snappy Kraken campaigns account.

To do this, please access your campaigns dashboard and follow the steps below.

  1. Click on your profile icon in the top right corner and select 'account settings' in the dropdown.
  2. In the account settings page, select the settings dropdown and select the email domain option.
  3. Once on the email domain page, click 'Add Domain.'

Here, you will be prompted to add your email domain. The domain you should enter is the one that is directly tied to your sender email address.

For example, if I set news@snappykraken.com as my sending email, then the domain I will input will be snappykraken.com.

Once you have correctly entered your email domain, you can click save.

Please ensure that you only use the domain name as is, without adding "www" or any other prefixes.

II. Setting up your DNS

Now that you have registered your domain with Snappy, you should be able to see it in the list.

To proceed with the setup, please click on the actions dropdown menu next to your domain and click Setup.

Please note: if there is already another account using the same domain that has already been set up, you should be able to click verify and skip the rest of the setup process. You will know if it worked as your domain will show as verified.

Now you should see a page that looks like this with 6 different records.

Each box contains a record made up of a type, name, and value. You will need to copy these records individually into your domain through your domain provider.

Please do not try to edit any of these records or incorporate them into any existing records in your domain, as they will not work.

III. Adding the DNS records to your domain

From here, you need to go to your domain host.

Some common ones are GoDaddy, Domains.com, and Network Solutions. If you are not sure which domain you are using, please contact your website or email administrator. Once you are logged in, you can add records to your domain.

Here is a list of resources for some specific domain hosts:

Please ensure that you do not delete any of your existing records, as this will affect your email or website. All of our records operate on a subdomain level, meaning they function in a separate area of your domain. This setup ensures that there are no conflicts with your existing records.

IV. Finishing the DNS setup

Once the records are added, please return to the Email Domain page in your Snappy Kraken dashboard, select the same actions dropdown menu, and select 'Verify Domain.'

When you are successful, the status next to your domain will change from Verification Incomplete to Verified.

That's it! Your DNS setup is complete.

My Status still says "Verification Incomplete"

If your status stays as Verification Incomplete, please wait 30 minutes to an hour before trying again. Some domain providers take more time with DNS updates than others.

If you still have issues, please double-check that no record was missed or input incorrectly.

For further assistance, please submit a ticket with details about the problem and your account information.
